Special thank you to Abby and Emma from Troup 2291 for their generous donations of welcome home baskets for families at Pope Francis Haven!

The girls came and toured the property and learned about how families who move into our havens are exiting homelessness and do not have many of the items needed to make a house a home.

They raised money and assembled 12 “welcome home baskets” for new families who move into Pope Francis Haven. They filled a new garbage can with cleaning supplies and hygiene items!

Another successful Essential Skills for Women program hosted at Gonzaga Family Haven! We celebrated four women completing the six-week program created by Gonzaga University, The ZoNE, Opportunity Northeast, Greater Spokane and WorkSource. The graduates are better prepared to return to school and/or apply for jobs and gained amazing skills and resources from community members over the past six weeks!

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month

We just wanted to take a minute and say… thank you.

At Catholic Charities Eastern Washington, our volunteers really do keep it all together, one act of kindness at a time.

Last year, more than 1,700 volunteers gave over 100,000 hours of their time. That created an estimated $3.3 million impact in our community, which is pretty amazing.

But honestly, what sticks with us isn’t the numbers.

It’s the meals served, the families supported, the seniors who get to stay in their homes, and the kids who feel cared for, because someone showed up.

And that someone is you.

Whether you volunteer every week or helped out once this year, it matters more than you probably realize.

We’re so grateful you’re part of this.

Today we commemorate the World Day of the Sick and consider the theme of Pope Leo XIV's message: "The compassion of the Samaritan: loving by bearing another's pain."

The Pope divided his message into the gift of encounter in three ways: "The joy of offering closeness and presence"; "The shared mission of caring for the sick"; and, "Always driven by love for God, to encounter ourselves and our neighbor."

At CCEW we embody this message by working each day to Feed the hungry, Heal the hurting, and Welcome the stranger.

This week, look for the 2026 PREPARES Open Your Heart Second Collection in
parishes across Washington state.

PREPARES – Pregnancy & Parenting Support – is our Church’s promise to care for
mothers and fathers from pregnancy to the child's fifth birthday – no matter their
beliefs. This program is a way we can "walk our talk" about celebrating the gift of
life and making sure that no child – born or unborn – is ever abandoned or alone.
In 2025 PREPARES has been embraced statewide by 197 parishes; 1,070 parish
Volunteers and trained Family Companions by local Catholic Charities staff, have
participated in 27,218 family encounters with vulnerable moms, dads, and
children with one-on-one companionship and infant and child essentials.
